How To Increase Prospect & Resident Engagement Through Event Videos

Community events make some of the most engaging videos you can send to residents, families and prospects.

  6. How are other communities using event videos?
1. How do I prepare to film an event?

Set up the space before you hit record, so you don't have to re-record.

  • Lights: turn them on.
  • Event equipment: make sure it's set up and in place.
  • Microphone: use one if the space is loud, or if you or others will speak during the video.
2. How do I make my event video look good?

Keep the camera steady, and record several short clips instead of one long shot.

  • Stay steady: use a selfie stand or a handheld tripod.
  • Record multiple clips: the video won't be one continuous shot, and you can highlight different parts of the event.
  • Mix your shots: combine wide shots of the room with close-ups of people and details.

To combine clips, use Creator Studio and add each clip under Add another clip.

3. How do I choose a thumbnail for an event video?

After you finish recording, pick an engaging thumbnail that catches recipients' attention. You have two options:

Option

What to do

A frame of yourself

Smile and look at the camera, not the screen

A frame of the event

Pick a moment that shows the event at its best

Click Set Thumbnail on the video preview, drag to the frame you want, and choose Static Thumbnail or Moving GIF Thumbnail.

4. How do I add an RSVP or website link to my event video?

Add a call to action (CTA) button. It's a button on your video that links to a page you choose.

  • Event promotion videos: link the CTA to an RSVP page.
  • Other videos: link to your community's website so people can learn more.

You add the CTA button on the Share Video screen.

5. How do I write a subject line for an event video?

Before you send, write a subject line that makes people want to open the email.

  • Create urgency: give people a reason to open it now.
  • Personalize it: use the recipient's name or something tied to their situation as a prospect.
  • Include the word "video": put it somewhere in the subject line.

Tip: create urgency with words, not numbers. OneDay customer data shows countdowns, percentages and dates (such as "ONLY 4 DAYS LEFT") and exclamation points lower clicks.

6. How are other communities using event videos?

Communities use event videos to show what life there is like and to reach leads who haven't responded.

  • Sneak peeks for prospects: one community held a Paris-themed prom for residents. Beforehand, it invited prospects to an open house with a sneak peek of the prom. The video got positive responses from residents and families. It also drew a prospect the team had worked with for months, who came to the event with her caregiver. The message: life at the community is fun and engaging, not nursing home living.
  • Reconnecting with unresponsive leads: another community uses events, such as a luau, to invite leads who haven't answered the phone. The team emails and texts a OneDay invitation video and asks them to RSVP. Afterward, they follow up with a quick video of short clips from the event.
